Q&A with…

Mathew McMahon
Client Services Executive

This month we catch up with our Client Services Executive, Mathew McMahon. Mathew has been with Deva Medical for over four years and works in the busy Client Services Team.

Meet the Team – Q&A

What does a typical day look like for you?
My day starts with checking in on any overnight emergency calls and ensuring any follow-ups are actioned. I then review emails, prioritise urgent requests, and organise engineer schedules based on availability and logistics. Throughout the day, I coordinate planned maintenance, liaise with patients, and monitor reports to keep everything running smoothly. I’m also on hand to take incoming calls, which can mean adjusting schedules at a moment’s notice. At the end of the day, I finalise the next day’s plans and ensure our out-of-hours support is in place.

What do you enjoy most about your job?
No two days are the same, which keeps things interesting! I thrive on problem-solving and enjoy the satisfaction of completing tasks that help keep everything running efficiently. It’s like putting together a jigsaw—each piece fitting into place makes a real difference.

What made you choose this industry?
I started during the pandemic, wanting to be part of a sector that helps people. Having direct contact with patients and ensuring they get the support they need is something I find really rewarding.

What’s the most interesting or challenging part of your role?
The fast-paced nature of the job! Priorities can change in seconds, so multitasking is key. Being able to switch between tasks and think on my feet is a challenge I enjoy.

If you could give one piece of advice to someone starting in this field, what would it be?
It can feel overwhelming at first, but perseverance is key. Things soon start to feel second nature. Lean on your team, take every opportunity to learn, and don’t be too hard on yourself—you won’t have all the answers straight away!

Fun Questions

If you weren’t in this job, what would you be doing?
I once dreamed of being an archaeologist and even picked my GCSEs with that in mind. But then I discovered music, swapped history for melodies, and envisioned myself as a one-hit-wonder rockstar who’d go on to manage an iconic band!

What’s one thing your colleagues might not know about you?
There’s not much I haven’t shared, but one thing that always surprises people—I can’t ride a bike! It’s a closely guarded secret, but I’m sure it’ll be used against me one day...
